I have a lot of time for the Little Triangle Theatre Company; Executive Producer Rose McClelland, Artistic Director Alexander Andrews and their team. They have been an active player on the Sydney fringe theatre scene since 2017, presenting under performed musicals and original cabarets, whilst other more fancied theatre companies have fallen by the wayside.
The Company’s current production 35mm : A MUSICAL EXHIBITION, originally to be performed at the now defunct Meraki Arts Bar, is having a season at the Flight Path Theatre.
This work can best be described as being about a series of vignettes focused on relationships, performed as pieces of musical theatre, with a photographer capturing a snapshot of the scene. The performers were supported by an excellent six piece band.
My response to Little Triangle’s latest was mixed. Before going on with this review it is important to say that we were advised by the Director just before the performance began that one of the performers had come down with a virus and had lost her voice. An awful thing to happen and obviously a big hurdle to overcome, which they bravely did.
I was uncertain as to why some of the performers had to be miked considering that Flight Path Theatre is a small, intimate theatre. The quality of the performer’s voices was uneven and I just gave up trying to understand a few of them.
On a more positive note the cast generated so much warmth and energy that I became increasingly engaged with the show and the show came together very well in the end.
