SOLACE is another fine production by Milk Crate Theatre, in tandem with the Box Of Birds/Stalker Theatre.
The mission statement of Milk Crate is to effect social change through the power of performance. The company holds the proud position of being the leading arts organisation in Australia which works in the intersection of the arts, homelessness, mental health, and disability, providing professional development pathways and opportunities for collaborative artists to engage in creative practices as both performers and theatre and film creators of works.
For their final show of the year, they have chosen a major life theme, solace. When life is difficult, as it ften can be, how and where do we find the solace, the comfort, the ability to self soothe, so that we can endure.
The way the play is done is that each of the performers let us, a little, in to their lives, and then share the stage with the other performers. The work is much more than simply text based theatre with a lot of well choreographed physical theatre work as well as impressive multimedia work.
Congrats to everyone involved. The performers – Kerry Bashford, Lana-Marie Filies, Mathias Nudi, Alana Pienkosz, Darlene Proberts and Nick Vagne. The creatives were co-directors Margot Politis (also the costume designer) and David Clarkson, assistant director Alex Travers, key support artist Lucy Watson, event producer Jessica Saras, production designer Matt Hughes, production manager Rick Everett and sound designer Prema Yin.
This production had only a very short season playing from the 29th November and closing tonight, the 2nd December 2023. Start time 7pm and the venue is the ARA Darling Quarter Theatre, Darling Harbour. Well worth a visit!
