The next production at the Hunters Hill Theatre is prolific British playwrightBeth Flintoff’s THE BALLAD OF MARIE MARTEN.
In the red barn a dark secret lies waiting to be discovered…”It has been a year since I died and still no-one has found me.”Maria Marten awaits her lover. A year later, hidden under the barn floor, Maria’s body is found. The emotionally charged play focuses on Maria’s life rather than her gruesome death, shedding light on a story of love, losss and patriarchal power.
With its strikingly different scenario Flintoff’s play and a big cast of twelve this promises me to be a good night of theatre. There is the caveat that the play does have strong themes of domestic violence.
The director is Jennifer Willison and the play will be performed at its resident venue in the upstairs theatre at Club Ryde. Willison’s production opens next Friday 6th June and the season will run until the 23rd June 2024.
Hunters Hill Theatre is offering one double pass to every Saturday night of the run. Email [email protected] with THE BALLAD OF MARIEN MARTEN to go in the draw. In the body of your email please specify which Saturday night you would like to attend. Winners will be advised by email.
