It is amazing how far one can take one smart idea, one clever concept!
Croatian couple Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic broke up their relationship after four years, their love had lost its magic. They were feeling very sorry for each other when their thoughts turned to what would be an appropriate object/souvenir, that had been part of their lives together, that they could remember their relationship by.
They put the chosen object to one side, and wanted to build upon it. They started asking friends if they had kept any objects from old relationships. They did.
Vistica and Grubisic decided to set up an art installation in. a local art space in their town of Zagreb. From these humble beginnings they were invited to take their art installation to different cities around the world as more and more donations were sent to them with the goal of setting up a museum.
What, in fact, resulted was Vistics and Grubisic were able to set up two fully fledged museums,, one in Zargreb and Los Angeles, which are still popular today. Additionally a companion coffee table book ‘The Museum Of Broken Relationships’ has been published.
Now young American filmmaker Natalie Krinsky has come up with a full length romantic comedy built around this concept.
‘Broken Hearts Gallery’ is set in modern day New York. The main character is 20-something art gallery assistant Lucy (Geraldine Viswanathan) who has just broken up with her boyfriend and has objects that remind her of her relationship.
She reflects that her friends have had broken relationships with similar objects. She collects these objects and is inspired to set up The Broken Hearts Gallery, a pop up space for these items that love has left behind. Word of the gallery spreads,
The film charts Lucy’s journey to set up a.professional broken hearts art gallery. She has the support of her girlfriends and a male friend who she becomes close to.
A vibrant, talented young cast bring Krinsky’s romantic comedy to life. The celebrated musical theatre star Bernadette Peters, playing the art gallery director, is the only famous person amongst the cast.
‘Broken Hearts Gallery’ has a very good contemporary soundtrack to go with the story.
”Broken Hearts Gallery’ is a very well put together, entertaining romantic comedy, and amounts to being an excellent beginning to Natalie Krinsky’s directorial career.
