There was a good vibe as people gathered outside the Studio Theatre at the Sydney Opera House last Friday night waiting to go in for the opening night performance of the french cabaret. L’HÔTEL .
We walk in as hotel staff accompany us to our table. The Studio had been transformed into the cabaret room in the hotel with plenty of table seating, a stage are with a bathtub on one side, a reception desk in the middle, and a piano on the other side. Facing the audience was also the facade of the interior of a hotel.
We were ushered to our table, at which time we received a glass of champagne each and had a cheese board to share. Later on we were each given a delectable chocolate eclair.
For a while we watched as the hotel staff went about their chores and then the performance began in earnest with a set by lounge singer Caroline Nin.The show comprised french songs sung by various performers as well as some incredibly impressive circus and burlesque acts including a very sensual, erotic scene between two women in a bath.
L’HÔTEL was first performed at last year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
To describe a show like this is difficult and doesn’t really do it justice. This is one of those kind of shows to be experienced, to take it all in, and let it wash over you
L’HÔTEL is playing the Studio Theatre at the Sydney Opera House until Sunday 13th November 2022.
