cadance bell : the all of it : a bogan rhapsody

This book charts the awakening of Ben Lynch to the realisation that he is a girl trapped inside a boy’s body. The book is a memoir and true-blue Aussie to the core. It would help to be an Australian to ‘understand’ much of the content, as it contains a lot of rhyming slang and Aussie-isms.

The story revolves around Ben, born in country NSW in Mudgee – a difficult place to realise that you have been born into the wrong body. His family is dysfunctional. He has a brother who is bi-polar and violent. Ben has a huge amount to deal with whilst growing up. While reading the book, you are swept along with him on his mostly bumpy and unhappy journey.

I thoroughly enjoyed THE ALL OF IT : A BOGAN RHAPSODY. It is sad as well as funny. To read it is to understand and empathise with the difficulties that transpeople go through. The twist and turns in the story keep the reader engaged to the last page.
