Archibald Prize
This year it has been a record year for entries into the Atchibald. Some 1068 entries were submitted. Only 55 entries were accepted as finalists. 22 artists were first time Archibald finalists. The top 3 subjects painted by the artists comprised 12 self portraits, 9 portraits of other artists and 8 featured portraits of people in the arts and entertainment industry. The smallest Archibald entry was just 25 X 20.5cm, the largest 250X250cm. Here are just a few of the Archibald finalists:
Wynne Prize
This year there were some 782 Wynne entries. From this pool the entries were culled to 34 finalists. There were 17 first Wynne Prize finalists. Here are just a few of the Wynne finalists:
Sulman Prize
It has been a record year for entries for the Sulman prize. Some 715 paintings were received. This pool of paintings was culled to some 18 finalists. Here are just a few of the Sulman Prize finalists:
There were some six artists who made the finals in more than one category.
It was a record year of 26 entries submitted by indigenous artists into the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes. There were some 10 Archibald Prize works which featured indigenous sitters.
This Friday 25th September at noon the winners of the Archibald,Wynne and Sulman Prizes will be announced.
On Wednesday 16th December at 11am the ANZ People’s Choice winner will be announced.
