Flickerfest, Sydney’s Academy® qualifying and BAFTA recognised short film festival, is celebrating 31 years and rolling out the red carpet at Bondi Beach from 21 – 30 January 2022.

See a kaleidoscopic carnival of short films from at home and across the world in the COVID-safe festival garden, featuring the famous Spiegeltent indoor cinema, an outdoor lawn cinema and a Festival Garden bar. With over 200 shorts selected from a record 3200 entries, screening across 29 competitive programs and showcase sessions, Flickerfest 2022 features a glittering line-up of stars in a program of the world’s best short films.

Audience favourite, the Best of Australian Shorts competition includes the world premiere of the quirky cult comedy The Home Team, starring Paul McDermott and Tara Morice. It also includes acclaimed Australian director Alex Proyas’s (Dark City I Robot) masterful short Mask Of The Evil Apparition.

To borrow from Bart Simpson’s “Eat my Shorts”, the best eating short at the festival is Nash Edgerton’s SHARK, the larrikin dark comedy that pricks a prankster’s penchant for the practical joke. A silly stunt comes back to literally bite him. Starring Nash and Rose Byrne in a splasher slasher that’ll have Spielberg spilling his guts.

Just when you thought it was safe to go in the water, you’ll find it best to stay ashore and enjoy  these broad shorts.

The Best of International competition features the Australian premieres of the delightfully macabre A Few Miles South, starring Toby Jones and Ivanno Jeremiah and the entrancing TIFF Award winner Angakuksajaujuq The Shamans Apprentice, by First Nations director Zacharious Kunuk (Atanarjuat -The Fast Runner).
