greens propose multi million dollar arts rescue package

The Greens have announced a three part rescue package dubbed ‘Create Australia’ which they will lobby other political parties to adopt and implement.

The package developed in association with  leading arts organisations includes a $800 million project to put an artist in residence at each school and library , a $1billion Australian content fund to kickstart the country ‘s screen industry and a $1billion fund for new events and productions in. the festival, music and live performance sector.

Green Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said,’the arts and entertainment sector has been so savaged. There are hundreds of thousands of people out of work, billions lost to the economy….Without  rescue package Australia risked the permanent loss of cuktural capital, of institutions and organisations that won’t be able to cope, an d artists and arts workers who will move on tp other things because they have to.”
