There are a lot of emails that come through with everyone designed to capture one’s attention.
I just feel compelled to put up a post about this exhibition. For most us our association with cemeteries is that they are incredibly sad places where loved ones have been laid to rest and which one only visits on special occasions.
I had never thought of it as a place to celebrate art and culture. And yet the HIDDEN Rockwood Sculptures exhibition is now in its 13th year.
This year’s exhibition, curated by Dr Kath Fries, will feature 30 sculptures.
Dr Kath Fries said, “Rockwood Cemetery is more than a final resting place; it’s a sacred space rich in cultural heritage and traditions.
“The annual HIDDEN Rookwood Sculptures event lets us invite the community into this unique setting, and foster the contemplation, remembrance, and appreciation of art, culture, and life. Whether you are drawn to the historical significance, personal stories, or the evocative sense of place of Rookwood Cemetery, HIDDEN 2023 promises to be an engaging and reflective event.”
The exhibition at the Rockwood General Gemetery will be open from sunrise to sunset, with admission free, between the 21st October and 19th November 2023.
