With their new show JUDY, the work of the Little Triangle theatre company continues to impress. JUDY is playing as part as part of the Hayes Theatre’s current cabaret season.
This was a very well put together ‘love letter’ to one of the great ladies of show business, Judy Garland. Alexander Andrews conceived the show which was then developed by Andy Freeborn who was the show’s Musical Director and played keys. He was joined by violinist Alec Steedman and drums Austin Hall, and together they made a great band.
JUDY featured six very talented performers; Jack Dawson, Prudence Holloway, Kira Leiva, Sebastian Nelson, Andy Robertson and Madeliene Wighton.
The show comprised quite a big song list, featuring songs that Judy put her special stamp on. Lots of the old classics such as ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’, ‘I’m Always Chasing Rainbows’, ‘Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries’ and ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ were given great renditions. Some songs were collected together in medley pieces.
My personal favourites. Andy Freeborn performed a highly evocative, stirring rendition of Peter Allen’s poignant tribute to Judy Garland, ‘Quiet Please, there’s a lady on stage’. The show ended on a perfect note with the cast coming together to perform ’Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again’.
There was plenty of warmth emanating from the stage, enjoyed by a fully receptive audience.
A co-production of Little Triangle ( Artistic Director Rose McLelland) and the Hayes Theatre, JUDY, running sixty minutes straight through, has only one more performance to go, on the 15th June 2025.
