At the Hayden Cremorne Orpheum recently, Cate Blanchett , one of the stars of Warwick Thornton’s new film THE NEW BOY, appeared for a photo call with the director and producer Kath Shelper.
The film’s script lay in Thornton’s drawer for 18 years.
When Cate Blanchett contacted Thornton seeking to work with him, Thornton pulled out the semi autobiographical screenplay and got to work on developing it.
Thornton replaced the character of a priest who was part of the original script with the character of a conflicted nun played by Blanchett.
Navigating Covid restrictions, they together with the rest of the cast and crew, headed to the Flinders Ranges, the film’s setting. Both Thornton and Blanchett said they would be happy to work together again.
As well as the Hayden Cremorne Orpheum, there was another preview screening of the film together with a Q and A afterwards, at the Randwick Ritz.
