PRIDE AND PREJUDICE : AN ADAPTATION IN WORDS AND MUSIC is the theatrical retelling of Jane Austen’s most famous work. The enduring story of the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy is presented in a warm, intimate drawing-room setting, in much the same way that Jane herself first read the story aloud to the Austen family and their closest friends.
Film, television and stage actress Nadine Garner, who started her career as a teen performer, evocatively and with plenty of humour and whimsy brings Austen’s classic text to life.
Garner is accompanied by two superb musicians; one a pianist, the other a violinist.
Singaporean born child prodigy Melvyn, who was the actual pianist who played Carl Davis magical score for the much loved BBC drama of Austen’s book. is the pianist for the first two weeks of the season (until the 25th August) after which a rising star of classical piano, Dan Le, will take over.
Madeleine Easton, a vcry experienced violinist who famously enthralled a multi-million audience at the coronation of King Charles.
Tyran Parke’s direction is silky and his design team, set and costumes by Mikailah Looker and lighting Matthew Tunchon, add further accompaniment and embellishment to Austen’s timeless satire and romance.
Evocative and beguiling, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE : AN ADAPTATION IN WORDS AND MUSIC, presented by Spiritworks & Theatre Tours International, with the adaptation by Gill Hornby and direction by Gill Hornby, is playing the Playhouse at the Sydney Opera Housee for a strictly limited season until the 1st September.
