The world’s biggest short play festival is back in Sydney.

Short+Sweet 2025 is a celebration of play writing, plus the creation of original theatre.

Festival starts from – Thursday 13th February 2025 to Sunday 18th May 2025

Over 70 plays feature in the span of just eight weeks, all are competing for a spot in the Gala Finals, where we award the best of the best.

Full range of brand new works brought to the forefront, sharp comedies, existential dramas, surreal horror, poetry, musical, political and inspirational narratives drive the eight week season.

1. HOW COULD YOU?

STARRING Gregory J Thorsby and Tida Dhannomtripap
Drama – Married couple stuck in their ways, one has learned to speak Japanese, the other to play guitar.

2. IN SPACE
Written and directed by Kirrily Annalise
STARRING Kirrily Annalise and Alexandra Pelvin
Comedy – Two sisters about divorcing the cheating husband.

3. THERE IS A ZOMBIE IN THE GARDEN, FRANK!
Written by Greg Gould
Directed by Ava Loiterton
STARRING Henry Summerton and Poppy Cozens
Drama – Yes our Enmore has zombies.

4. LIFE DRAWING CLASS
Written by Amanda Lay
Directed by Jonathan Solomon
STARRING Carolyn Neumann, Mel Latsos and Letizia De Francesco
Comedy – Life Drawing Class, the teacher and two students, and a naked male person.

5 IDENTITY CRISIS
Written by Robert Luxford
Directed by Melissa Paris
STARRING Robin Queree and Scott Clarke
Dramedy – Male person wants to become, Miss Suzie Wong.

6. GOOD PEOPLE
Written by Adam McGurk
Directed by PJ Collins
STARRING Tamsyn Navra, Karys Kennedy, Nathan Kellie and Simon Bartlett
Dramedy – Reading of the will, the three estranged children have unexpected gifts from their mother. Audience dramedy favourite, at the opening night performance.

Comedy – Two guys walk into a bar, just living their lives.

9. DREAM JOB
Written and directed by James Kehoe
STARRING James Kehoe, Jacqui Bramwell and Davis Jensen
Comedy – Dan the reality dream-weaver, or was that reality just nightmares.

10. ONE WORD
Written by Bara Swain
Directed by Elizabeth Newman
STARRING Piper Farrell and Liz Newman
Drama – Mother/daughter relationship, where mum hates US Presidents named BUSH.

11. TAXIMAN
Written by Chris Naylor
Directed by Emily Garrett
STARRING Manny Katts, Letizia De Francesco, Oliver Harcourt-Ham
Comedy – Storytelling taxi driver confessional, all his oddball passengers who reveal all.

12. STAMP, STOP, STEP
Written and directed by Frank Leggett
ITC = AMPULLAE OF LORENZINI
STARRING Debbie Westaway
Comedy – All music. All singing. All dancing. All or nothing. Very very entertaining performance, this short story monologue, all about her husband Charles, is delivered in the voices of multiple famous female singers. Audience comedy favourite, at the opening night performance.

EXPECT – Some plays may contain “crude indecent” adult themes, and strong highly offensive profanities, offensive/coarse language, offensive foul material/themes, moderate alcohol usage, and issues relating to trauma. Recommended only for persons over the age of 18.

The festival’s dynamic season continues with dedicated programs showcasing emerging talent during Youth Week ( 6-9 March 2025 ) and innovative Shakespeare interpretations in ‘Bite-sized Bard’ ( 4-7 April 2025 ), curated by Come You Spirit’s Jo Bloom.

May brings a spectacular Cabaret Week ( 5-8 May 2025 ), featuring an array of singers, dancers, and multidisciplinary artists.

The season culminates in the highly anticipated Semi-Finals and Gala Finals ( 16+17 May 2025 ), where the festival’s most outstanding performances compete for top honours.
