THE GOLDEN SPURTLE: GET YOUR GOLDILOCKS OFF

The proof of the porridge is in the spurtle.

Can a film about a porridge competition be anything other than stodge?

Constantine Costi has produced a cereal killer. THE GOLDEN SPURTLE is case of whatever floats your oats as Costi coasts through preparations for the World Porridge Making Championships.

Each year the sleepy highland village of Carrbridge, Scotland, awakens with excitement as locals and competitors from around the globe vie for the honour of winning The Golden Spurtle, the porridge Olympics.

Against the backdrop of the breathtaking Scottish Highlands and infused with whimsical humour of an eclectic cast THE GOLDEN SPURTLE captures the humanity of village life and those who visit with spurtle in hand.

The spurtle, as Scottish as tartan and sporan, is a mixing stick employed to keep the ingredients of porridge, oats, salt and water, from congealing into gruel. Dating back to neolithic times, few culinary traditions have survived as long as the hearty bowl of stir, and the spurtle adds not only consistency but supernatural qualities when wielded correctly, a wand that casts a spell on the slop.

Forget Goldilocks and The Three Bears, THE GOLDEN SPURTLE is just the right story about porridge you’ll get this season. Not too long, not too glib, just right!

Breakfast of champions champion, Charlie Miller, this competition means so much more than just a bowl of steaming oats. With ailing health but a responsibility to his fellow porridge committee members, Charlie is on a mission to secure the future of the championships and his own legacy.

Legacy is also at stake for Carrbridge local Ian Bishop, mounting one last glorious attempt to secure the title.

But there’s stiff competition for the spurtle. Formidable return competitor Lisa Williams, the queen of porridge, is ready to bring home the trophy, whilst the new generation of spurtlers Toby Wilson, Australian taco chef and Adam Kiani both want to challenge the porridge status quo.

All of these combatants know a thing or two about stewing their wild oats and Costi coaxes insights and strategies from each of them in a simmering narrative that nourishes the soul.
