the kweens of comedy show coming online soon

Supported by the City of Sydney’s COVID Relief Grants, comedian and community leader AJ Lamarque launches The Kweens of Comedy Show.

The online version of his monthly show Kweens of Comedy will showcase a lineup of Sydney’s best up-and-coming comedians, giving a platform to performers who have lost work and career development opportunities in the wake of COVID-19.

In response to the need for this show in the current environment AJ said: “The comedy industry is one of the least supported art forms and the pandemic has highlighted the few structures there are to nurture and develop emerging artists. This funding has allowed not only a paycheck, but the abilityto upskill and prepare for a comedy world in the digital sphere” AJ said.

Discussing the importance of the project, AJ commented: “There are so many incredibly talented comedians with different perspectives and from diverse backgrounds that will seldom have the capabilities or opportunities to bring their ideas to life and speak to their communities. This show has been the start of changing that for rising talent, and hopefully, will allow for a much needed diversification of the scene.”

Each episode in the 3-part season includes new sketches, stories and skits involving more than 20 local comedians, writers, creatives and performers. The lineup includes Concetta Caristo (PedestrianTV, ABC’s At Home Alone), Jacqui Duncan (The Shaq, Giggle and Hoot), Fady Kassab (RAW Comedy winner 2019), Annaliese Constable (Queerstories) and many more.

AJ Lamarque is a fast-rising Queer, Mixed Raced comedian and producer whose work focuses on fostering welcoming communities and supporting emerging & mid-career artists. In early 2020, AJ was a NSW RAW Comedy State Finalist and in 2019, he was a finalist in the Young Achiever category of the Honour Awards.
