the lucky country @ the hayes

Vidya Makan and Sonya  Suares‘ musical  THE LUCKY C OUNTRY  is a joyous celebration of our beautiful, lucky country as it stands today. A celebration of how much Australia society has grown and evolved from the terrible treatment of its First Nations people and the intolerance and discrimination of the White Australia Policy. A celebration of the inclusivity and diversity in cultures of present day Australia, and how First Nations people are now finally finding their voice and starting to get the respect thy deserve.

There is no dialogue in THE LUCKY COUNTRY. The  show conceived by Vidya Makan and Sonya Suares is told entirely in song with snappy scene seamlessly merging in to the next one.

The cast excel with each performer making substantial contributions.

The work of Justin Harrison’s with his superb projection design, projecting  computer generated imagery and video onto an ever changing backdrop,  Amy Zhang’s  very intuitive choreography, and Heidi Maguire’s  inspired orchestrations  were the stars, the stand-outs of the design team.

Well worth seeing, THE LUCKY COUNTRY is currently playing the Hayes Theatre, Greenknowe Street Potts Point. Running Time  65  minutes no interval. Performances are Mondays at 6.30pm, Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7.30pm, also Thursdays at 1pm and Saturdays at 2pm.
