Remember Cyndi Lauper’s hit song, ‘Girls just want to have fun’?! Lauper’s sentiments define the show, ‘The Wau Wau Sisters Last Supper’, devised by two very outrageous, left of field New York half sisters, Tanya Gagna and Adrienne Truscott.
The girls set the tone for the evening straight away, greeting the audience as they come in, one sister on either side, with wafers, without the wine. The opening number sees the girls, dressed in Catholic schoolgirl costumes, perform an irreverent striptease, performing lewd acts with communion water, portraits of Jesus, and the holy Cross, to the 1980’s rock band Night Ranger’s song, ‘Sister Christian’.
With their new show, Gagna and Truscott have come up with a winning recipe:- a fast paced show performed in an upbeat style with plenty of anarchic, lewd humour… lots of audience interaction, grabbing people from the audience who bravely went on stage and went ‘toe to toe’ with them with their routines… some great musical breaks as the girls donned grotesque blonde wigs, grabbed their guitars and performed salacious country and western songs of their own composition, and some great acrobatic and circus acts climaxing in an outrageously brilliant athletic routine to the Guns N Roses song, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.
What A Night! ‘The Wau Wau Sisters’ Last Supper’ opened on Thursday 13th January and plays the Studio Theatre, Sydney Opera House until Saturday 22nd January, 2011.
