THEATRESPORTS ALL-STARS AT THE ENMORE : A STARRY NIGHT OF IMPROVISATION

The best TheatreSports™ legends and champion improvisors mixing it up with some of the freshest new talent around, to entertain audiences the only way they know how: by the seat of their pants… and without a safety net! The annual All-Stars gala directed by legend herself, Julie Dunsmore. Hosted by Ewan Campbell with co-host and timekeeper Jestika Chand and musical improviser Benny Davis. A terrific audience squealed along with Ewan Campbell’s humble intro and then he was back as host. More joy! He plays the crowd and they are very willing to play with him. This year’s cast included Ryan Atkins, Ruby Blinkhorn, David Callan, Daniel Cordeaux, Benny Davis, Murray Fahey, Jim Fishwick, Sarah Gaul, Jordan Gregory-Dunsmore, Nat Jensen, John Knowles, Steve Lynch, Jioji Ravulo, Lisa Ricketts, Adam Spencer, Linette Voller, Jane Watt, and Kate Wilkins. I loved the format…games without boundaries, always managed with the guidance of the form, the time, the disguise of the structure. A tinsy bit of what we know mixed with a manifestation of an otherness. Every player tonight was gameful and ready. The All-Stars aren’t in competitive mode but rather celebratory. This is how the audience loves it. How each call of the next game would have the players randomly assigned was another bonus. Then the games themselves most from the early formats. Genre rollercoaster, expert double figures, an I love you scene. The challenges escalated, the physical sit, stand, kneel, lie, and playing as the characteristics of animals, all the fun culminated in an Epic Ballet with half the cast and then a Broadway musical with the remainder. What a perfect match for the Comedy festival – THEATRESPORTS™ is the longest-running comedy show in town. You hold your breath in the awe of what might be said next. Promoted as players by the seat of their pants, I tell you the audience were on the edge of their seats too.
